English-speaking lawyer in Prague: an attorney who works with artificial intelligence

I am a Czech attorney based in Prague 1 with more than 15 years of practice, and I work in English. Artificial intelligence prepares the research, the document review and the first drafts from verified sources, I do the assessment, the review and the signature. Send me your documents and usually within two working days you will know whether and on what terms I can help.

What is an AI lawyer, and what is an attorney who works with AI?

An attorney who uses AI as a tool. I am an attorney registered with the Czech Bar Association under reg. no. 16037, with the bar exam and more than 15 years of practice. Artificial intelligence does my research, document review and first drafts, from verified sources rather than from memory. Assessing the matter, reviewing and signing remain mine. Every output you receive from me has passed through my hands, and I am liable for it.

A lawyer is not an attorney, and an AI lawyer is not even a lawyer. In the Czech Republic anyone with a law degree may call themselves a lawyer. An attorney (advokát) is the only one who may provide legal services independently, to anyone and in any matter: three years of traineeship, the bar exam, registration with the Czech Bar Association, a duty of confidentiality, liability for damage and mandatory insurance. A notary, a tax adviser or an in-house lawyer advises only in their field or their employer. An “AI lawyer” online is software that answers a question for a few crowns. Its operators state themselves that they do not provide legal advice. If you want fast and more affordable legal help backed by practical experience and liability, you are looking for an attorney who knows how to work with AI.

Humans think, AI does the heavy lifting.

What does working with AI bring you?

Faster, better and cheaper

Faster. Reading and sorting documents, research and first drafts that used to take days now take hours with AI. You get the result sooner.

Better. I review more decisions and literature than would otherwise be worthwhile, and every output passes a double check: AI verifies the sources, I assess the matter.

Cheaper. My hourly rate is in line with standard practice in Prague, but there are fewer hours. I only bill the time I actually spent on your matter, and you receive a breakdown with the invoice.

What this means in practice

I complete case-law, statutory and literature research in a fraction of the time. Every decision I rely on I analyse in detail, not just its headnote.

You get the result quickly and in a clear structure: conclusion and recommendation first, then the reasons and sources.

Before anything goes out, I check every citation, amount, date and deadline against the source documents.

From published decisions I know how the particular court and judge decide, and I build the strategy and each submission on that, not only the preparation for the hearing.

How do I work with AI on your matter?

What AI does for me and what it never does. AI goes through hundreds of pages of a case file, finds inconsistencies in a contract, retrieves and compares case law and prepares the first draft of a contract or a submission. It does not decide what is best for you, it does not negotiate with the other side and it does not stand in court for you. That remains my job: in a contract, a dispute or a corporate matter I always know what AI did and what I did.

1. Documents

You send me contracts, correspondence and decisions. AI sorts them, builds a timeline of events and lists the disputed points.

2. Legal analysis

I build the assessment in steps, from the material facts through the issues and the applicable rules to a tentative conclusion. AI suggests options, I decide.

3. Verification

AI does not cite from memory in my practice. It retrieves every statutory provision in its current wording and every decision in full text, and attaches a source to every statement. What it cannot find, it does not use. I then review the output as I would any submission: facts, logic, strategy, figures and deadlines.

4. Output

You receive the contract, submission or opinion in a form I have reviewed and am liable for. In a dispute, I represent you in court in person.

Who is liable for mistakes and how do I protect your data?

Using AI changes nothing about the duties I have as an attorney under the law. I follow the Czech Bar Association’s interpretative opinion on artificial intelligence in legal services (in Czech) of 9 September 2026: AI is a permissible tool, but the attorney is responsible for the result, must verify AI output before using it in a legal service and may enter confidential data only into tools with contractual and technical safeguards.

Attorney liability

I am liable to you for harm caused in connection with the practice of law (Section 24(1) of the Legal Profession Act), and I am insured against it by law (Section 24a(1)).

Confidentiality

Confidentiality (Section 21(1) of the Legal Profession Act) applies to work with AI as well. I use business versions of AI tools whose contractual terms prohibit training models on customer data and protect it as confidential information.

Verified sources

Legislation in its current wording from the official Collection of Laws, court decisions in full text from court databases and legal literature (commentaries, the Czech Bar journal) are connected directly to the tools I work with. AI cites from them with a reference to the source. Its output is material for my review, never a finished answer.

How much does an AI lawyer cost, and how much an attorney working with AI?

AI tools answer for a few euros or for free, but without an assessment of your matter by an experienced professional and without liability. With me, the initial assessment of your documents is free. Further work is billed at CZK 2,800 per hour for standard matters and CZK 3,700 for more complex cases, plus VAT. A fixed fee can also be agreed in advance.

Free initial assessment of your documents

Send your documents and usually within two working days I will tell you whether and on what terms I can help.

Hourly rate

Indicatively CZK 2,800 per hour for standard matters and CZK 3,700 for more complex cases, plus VAT.

Fixed fee and success-based fee

I can agree a fixed fee for almost anything, from a contract review to an entire court case. In disputes we can also agree a fee paid out of the costs award and a share in the result within the limits set by the Bar. You then pay only a fixed amount at the start. If you win, the other side reimburses the costs of the proceedings and you get your initial payment back.

Why it costs less

Routine work you would otherwise pay for in hours is done by AI. What remains on the invoice is mainly time for strategy, negotiation and review.

Send me your matter for a free initial assessment

Frequently asked questions about an attorney using AI

    What is an AI lawyer?

An AI lawyer, in the sense I use the term, is an attorney registered with the Czech Bar Association who uses artificial intelligence in their work. It is not a chatbot giving advice instead of a lawyer. AI reads and sorts documents, retrieves legislation and case law from verified sources and prepares first drafts for me. I assess the matter, review the output and sign it. Unlike services marketed as AI lawyers, my work is backed by an attorney’s practice and liability.

Is an AI lawyer the same as an attorney who works with AI?

No. Online, an AI lawyer is usually a chatbot that answers questions and states itself that it does not provide legal advice. An attorney who works with AI has passed the bar exam, has years of practice, is registered with the Czech Bar Association, uses AI as a tool and is liable for the result. If you want advice backed by experience and liability, look for an attorney, not for software.

Is an attorney working with AI cheaper?

Yes. The hourly rate is comparable to other attorneys, but there are fewer hours. The savings are greatest where there are many documents: an extensive case file, a series of contracts or long correspondence. I only bill the time I actually spent on your matter.

Is ChatGPT enough instead of a lawyer?

For simple matters, a general AI tool can help you on your own, for instance to understand a contract, write a payment reminder or a simple contract amendment. But it only knows what you tell it, it often cites legislation and case law incorrectly, it is poor at telling what matters from what does not, and it lacks an attorney’s practical experience. It is not liable for its answer. Once a larger amount, a court dispute or a hard-to-reverse contract is at stake, an attorney who masters AI and verifies its output is worth it.

    Will AI replace lawyers?

The routine part of the work, yes, meaning reading documents, research and first drafts. What a client pays an attorney for, no: assessment, strategy, negotiation, representation and liability. According to a DirectCase survey of 170 Czech attorneys from March 2026, seven in ten already use AI at least several times a week and a third daily. Clients see it similarly: in the Legal & Business Insight 2026 survey of 102 business owners, 73 % do not believe AI will replace attorneys within five years. The difference is who verifies and signs the output.

May an attorney use artificial intelligence?

Yes. In its interpretative opinion of 9 September 2026, the Czech Bar Association describes artificial intelligence as a permissible tool in the provision of legal services. The attorney remains responsible for the service, must verify AI output before using it in a legal service and may enter confidential information only into tools with contractual and technical confidentiality safeguards.

Who is liable for a mistake when AI works on the matter?

I am. Under Czech law, an attorney is liable to the client for harm caused in connection with the practice of law (Section 24(1) of the Legal Profession Act) and must be insured against it (Section 24a(1)). The attorney’s use of AI does not change that.

Will anyone else learn about my matter?

The duty of confidentiality (Section 21(1) of the Legal Profession Act) applies to work with AI as well. I use business versions of AI tools whose contractual terms prohibit training models on customer data and protect it as confidential information.

    Do you work in English?

Yes. Consultations, contracts and correspondence are in English. Court proceedings in the Czech Republic are conducted in Czech. I represent you in court and keep you informed in English, and an interpreter can be arranged for the hearing.

Where can I get free legal advice in Prague in English?

Send me your documents and usually within two working days I will tell you free of charge whether and on what terms I can help. If your income is too low for a lawyer, the Czech Bar Association will on request appoint an attorney for a free consultation of up to 120 minutes a year. You qualify if your average monthly income over the last six months is at most three times the subsistence minimum, which for a single person is CZK 16,500 (as of October 2026); for a family the minimum of all jointly assessed persons is added up. The application is a Czech-language form with a CZK 100 fee. The consultation is usually in person. Foreigners can also get free legal counselling at the Integration Centre Prague, mainly on residence matters.

Do you represent clients outside Prague?

Yes. My office is in Prague 1, Školská street, but I act throughout the Czech Republic. Contracts, corporate matters and consultations can be handled online. I attend court in person, and for distant courts I sometimes, by agreement with you and to keep your costs down, use a local substitute attorney.

I am a lawyer. Can you teach me to work with AI?

Yes, I run a hands-on workshop for law firms. Details are on the AI training for lawyers page.
